Why The Big Green Egg Cooker Smokes Other BBQ Grills
If you are a grill fanatic, you have almost certainly seen the Big Green Egg grill. It is a ceramic barbeque grill you can use as a grill, smoker as well as a brick oven. It really is so adaptable you're able to make all sorts of things from hamburgers and steaks and other classic barbeque grill foods to desserts, bread and even pizza.
Eggheads are very enthusiastic about the Big Green Egg, but you may be wondering what makes the Egg (as it's fondly called) out-shine other grills.
Probably the greatest difference is the appearance. The Big Green Egg smoker is well, green and in the shape of a big egg. Though I can't say precisely why it's green, I will point out that the egg shape was designed (purposely) to present the means to regulate and retain heat inside the grill better than other grills.
The second largest difference is the material the grill is made of. Instead of being made using metal, the Big Green Egg features thick ceramic walls. Ceramic is substantially more sturdy as compared to other materials, so the Egg will last longer than other barbecue grills, it can be cooked on year long (even during very cold temperatures). It is also less dangerous than other grills, particularly when there are kids running around, since the ceramic exterior stays much cooler than conventional metal grills plus you always cook with the lid down, which means you don't have to worry about flare-ups.
There are plenty of other differences however among my favorites is definitely the fan club the Big Green Egg has. You can find Egg lovers and gatherings throughout the United States, and Eggheads are willing to share their stories, advice in addition to recipes at gatherings and on the Egghead forum. I can't think of another bbq grill that has such a following.
I will admit, the Egg does have a few disadvantages when compared to other bbq grills. For instance, it isn't an inexpensive barbeque grill. You can expect to spend around $700 to get a large Big Green Egg. Also, it's important to use lump wood charcoal, which isn't always readily available and can be quite a bit more pricey when compared with traditional charcoal briquettes. The Big Green Egg also has a smaller grilling surface compared to many gas grills, which suggests you may want a backup grill when entertaining a lot of people.
Even so, the versatility of the Big Green Egg grill, the capability to grill, smoke or even bake with your Egg, and the awesome results you will get (the Egg is quite forgiving, even for newbie cooks) are well worth the cost. If you are a bbq fan and you do a good deal of smoking in addition to grilling you are going to love the quality and the results you will get when cooking on the Big Green Egg.
